Tag 40

Ok, today, I’ll definitely need to practice the vocabulary for the days of the week a bit more.

Montag - Wann? - Am Montag

Dienstag - Wann? - Am Dienstag

Mittwoch - Wann? - Am Mittwoch

Donnerstag - Wann? - Am Donnerstag

Freitag - Wann? - Am Freitag

Samstag - Wann? - Am Samstag

Sonntag - Wann? - Am Sonntag

The interviews actually help quite a bit to get the melody into my head. Do you think so, too?

Juliane told me that “am” is short for “an dem” (the preposition “an” and the dative article “dem” - we’ll learn more about that later), and it’s what usually comes in front of weekdays, days and times of the day. I noticed that in German, this is actually much easier than in English where we have all kinds of different prepositions! Funny!

am Montag - on Monday

am ersten Tag - on the first day

am Morgen - in the morning

am Mittag - at noon

am Abend - in the evening

And also for dates:

am ersten Januar - on January first

It’s all am, am, am.

There are some exceptions, of course, such as “in der Nacht - at night”, but it’s really actually mostly “am”. 😁
