This morning, I surprised a friend and colleague of mine by asking him: ”Arbeitest du viel? Bist du müde? Brauchst du Hilfe?” He actually understood me, which was great, and then said something in German, which I was not able to understand… 😕 Yet! 😁
I told him that I was now learning German, and he agreed to being my “guinea pig” from time to time, to which I replied: “Danke, du bist freundlich! Ich habe Glück!”
And so, I started mixing some sentences I learned in class into our conversations, when it’s just me and him. 😉 At lunch, , I also asked him: “Hast du Hunger? Let’s go and grab something to eat?” He smiled, and off we went!
Do you have someone with whom to drop in a sentence in German from time to time? If not, you should try it out with people who know that you are learning German, even if they don’t speak it themselves - follwed by the translation. Believe me, they will be able to handle it - and it will help you link what you learn to specific situations. 😉
