Wofür ist Wuppertal bekannt? Jeder würde jetzt sagen: für die Magnetschwebebahn. Das stimmt auch, und diese ist seit dem Jahr 1997 sogar Weltkulturerbe. Aber was hat nun ein Elefant mit dieser Magnetschwebebahn zu tun? Ganz einfach: Der Elefant Tuffi sprang 1950 aus der Schwebebahn in den Fluss, der Wupper. Warum? Der Elefant gehörte zu einem Zirkus und sollte in der Bahn Werbung für diesen Zirkus machen. Man hat sogar fünf Fahrkarten für ihn gekauft! Aber Tuffi gefiel das Bahnfahren nicht so gut und sprang deshalb aus dem Fenster in den Fluss. Und glücklicherweise hat Tuffi überlebt.
Wuppertal ist aber noch für etwas anderes bekannt. In der Stadt hat man das Aspirin erfunden.
Und außerdem kannst du in Wuppertal etwas für deine Kondition tun: In der Stadt gibt es 517 Treppen mit insgesamt 8723 Stufen. Da bekommst du schon ordentlich Muskeln, wenn du hinauf- und hinunterläufst.
